My Story
Calla Harrington, LICSW is a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, consultant for clinical growth and excellence, and together with her daughter, Heather Gaudette, co-founder of Wellness Within in Northampton, MA.
A lifelong dweller in curiosity and holder of deep compassion, she has spent countless hours practicing the art of therapy with individual adults, couples, adolescents, children, and their families.
A growth enthusiast and lifelong learner herself, over time she began sharing her experience with others, encouraging them as they evolve on their career paths by providing clinical supervision, supporting their process of coming to know and understand human needs and development, and by creating RIPPLING, a legacy project and ongoing journey of clinical evolvement.
THE STORY OF “RIPPLING”
RIPPLING is a comprehensive and simplified approach to enhanced quality and desired outcomes.
RIPPLING happens:
-
when a stone is dropped in water initiating movement that flows
-
in the relationship between therapist and human/client
-
as therapy advances forward deepening
-
in our personal learning and growth
-
when we help others who then go and live in the world differently
-
in our early, current, and future relationships
PURPOSE of RIPPLING
-
To build a bridge over the space between academic acquisitions and competency in creating a therapeutic difference for other human beings
-
To normalize and address imposter syndrome
-
To offer a guiding framework to therapists, practice owners, and clinical mentors, which enhances the quality of our therapy and simplifies the approach
-
To answer the questions:
Where does doing this work “well” begin?
How can we make the infinitesimal mighty?
What is the difference between a therapeutic master artist and one who paints-by-number?
Who do you choose to be?
Who do you want to represent your practice?
COMPARISON IN “THE ART OF THERAPY”
-
Begins with an open mind and a blank slate
-
Objective is limitless and allows for human engagement
-
Use of self is integral to this work and intentional in the process
-
A clinical experience of flow is often created in the room
-
Sees the pursuit of mastery as a continuous process
-
Expands and deepens the client’s self-understanding
-
Offers an alternative experience of what a relationship can be
-
Provides deep listening in the here-and-now moments
-
Begins with preconceived ideas and set habits of treatment
-
Objective is client adjustment and problem/solution
-
Use of self is contained within a narrow frame
-
An experience of flow in the work cannot likely be expected
-
Developing mastery is thwarted in this restricted approach
-
Limits the depth of understanding afforded the client
-
The focus is behavioral and the therapeutic relationship is secondary
-
In-the-moment engaging tends to be overlooked or under-utilized
